Self Portrait- Studying Frida

In a way, I think I can relate to the lady. Someone told me that I should write a book. I'm not quite sure about that, but I'd sure like to keep a public visual diary. So here goes my first entry.
"Weed is the new crack"
If you have a short attention span, watch the second video, then the first.

Check out Frank Ocean
He's a member of the popular new collective, Odd Future. Frank is a singer/songwriter who's making amazing music. He definitely has his own sound and style. Now excuse me while I go listen to Cruise Control.

J.PERIOD, JOHN LEGEND & THE ROOTS RELEASE HISTORY-MAKING MIXTAPE IN HONOR OF GRAMMY-NOMINATED WAKE UP! ALBUM

:: J.PERIOD, JOHN LEGEND & THE ROOTS RELEASE HISTORY-MAKING MIXTAPE IN HONOR OF GRAMMY-NOMINATED WAKE UP! ALBUM ::
:: EPIC REMIX COMPILATION FEATURES JOHN LEGEND, THE ROOTS, RAKIM, COMMON, NNEKA, Q-TIP, PETE ROCK & CL SMOOTH & MORE! ::
New York, NY (February 10 , 2011) – In anticipation of an award-winning evening for John Legend & The Roots’ WAKE UP! album (nominated for 5 Grammys at Sunday’s 2011 Grammy Awards), J.Period & Truelements Music are pleased to present WAKE UP! RADIO – a star-studded mixtape collaboration with Columbia Records’ multi-platinum singing sensation, and the hardest working Late Night band on the planet!
Hosted by The Roots’ own Black Thought, WAKE UP! RADIO pays tribute to the legacy of soul music that paved the way for WAKE UP! and imagines a world where mainstream radio transmits music with a message. Employing an all-star cast of musical contemporaries (including John Legend & The Roots themselves), J.Period dissects, remixes and rebuilds the original recording sessions from the WAKE UP! album in an unprecedented manner, defying the conventional wisdom of what a “mixtape” can be—producing a full-fledged remix album in the process. The result is a treasure trove of powerful new music, produced and remixed exclusively by J.Period for WAKE UP! RADIO.
Scheduled for release today, February 10, 2011 , WAKE UP! RADIO will be offered as a FREE DOWNLOAD in celebration of WAKE UP!’s 5 Grammy nominations, and will also be available as a Limited Edition gift-bag giveaway at The Roots’ Grammy Jam on Saturday, February 12 in Los Angeles, CA—consistently one of the hottest tickets on a weekend overflowing with events. J.Period will also be on hand in Los Angeles to perform at The Grammy Jam, DJing to open up for The Roots’ headlining performance.
Adding to the historic nature of this mixtape release, J.Period will also release an exclusive Digital 12” on Tuesday, February 15, featuring a history-making collaboration between John Legend, Black Thought of The Roots, and hip hop luminary, Rakim. The track, entitled “In the Ghetto (Wake Up!)”, produced by J.Period, is an homage to the Eric B. & Rakim classic “In The Ghetto”—which hearkens back to a time when hip hop and social messages went hand in hand.
Additional featured guests on WAKE UP! RADIO include Common, Q-Tip, Late Night host Jimmy Fallon, Nigerian songstress Nneka, Somali sensation K’NAAN, rising star Blu, Def Poet Mayda Del Valle and more, in addition to never-before-heard music from Black Thought and John Legend. Also look out for J.Period’s history-making “Our Generation” Remix, reuniting hip hop legends Pete Rock & CL Smooth, which was originally released online in November, and is also featured on WAKE UP! RADIO.
“When this project began, I was excited to explore the legacy of soul music behind the WAKE UP! album,” explains J.Period, “but I had no idea of the level of access and creative freedom I would be granted by John Legend & The Roots to tell that story. The result is not only something that traces musical history lines from artists like Marvin Gaye to contemporaries like John Legend—but something that adds to that history: brand new collaborative tracks as if Marvin & John recorded together. It’s simply unprecedented on a mixtape. And I am particularly proud of the fact that all of it speaks to the true power of music to carry a message, and have a positive impact on society, and on people’s lives.”
“These songs [are] so relevant now,” says John Legend. “On most of them, you wouldn’t change a lyric [from the original version.] The passionate election [in 2008] represented change and hope, and awakened a new generation of activists who had never been inspired before. [Fast forward to today:] the intense brew of possibility [and] poverty, optimism and despair, activism and unrest, global connectedness and intractable global conflicts is the reason WAKE UP! exists."
Available today, WAKE UP! RADIO celebrates the powerful impact of John Legend & The Roots’ WAKE UP! album (Columbia Records), and calls on listeners who haven’t heard the Grammy-nominated album to do so now. Digging for Gold: Bonobo - Nightlite (Featuring Bajka)
I'm in my production/composition realm right now. Figuring out the meanings of tonality, homophony, etc thanks to Music 101. Plus my heart has a diverse taste in music, as do I. All of that mixed with looking for inspiration for songs I've written these past couple weeks led me to some dope music online. Here's one piece...if you're a producer, musician or free spirit of any kind, this is the type of music that's good to study, critique and raise your vibration with. I like to note the chord progressions, instruments used, samples looped. I try to guess the effects on instruments, etc. You'll like it.
Still Around - Toro Y Moi - Introducing...Chillwave
I fell in love with Chillwave about 3 weeks ago. A new genre invented by a hipster. So you know this is major for Hippie Maphia & new era hippies, peaceful territory of free reign to evolve.
The genre started in the late 2000's & right now, it's a mix of electro pop, r&b, hip-hop, shoegazing and nostalgic vibes.
One of the leaders of Chillwave dropped a new video. This is more of chillwaves r&b side. I love it....I love it.

Kendrick Lamar gives the real Hip-Hop Heads what we need.

I know I'm late but I'm now proud to say that I'm a fan. The dude has ill flows & lyrics and very original styles and concepts. And he picks really dope beats. Truthfully this ep is more like an album. Screw it. It IS an album. I've only listened to it once but I'm sure that with more spins I'll like it even more. His music will make u think but keep u nodding your head as well.
Here's the video for "She Needs Me" a track off the ep

50 Cent Shut Down www.WorldStarHipHop.com
Yeah it's true. Type it in and no page will be found! @50Cent tweeted that World Star Hip Hop is deleted/gone/no more/expired.
Apparently the government shut it down for copyright infringement. Heh, go figure. Have a good day.
College Maphians - The 15/30 Study Technique
THE 15/30 Study Technique
Social Networking Scholars
Avoiding the internet all together is a stretch for everyday users. To balance it out, schedule your breaks similar to classroom settings.
Ex: You have an essay to write or a book to study from for a test.
Balance
Use the 15/30 theory (created by HippieMaphia.com). Focus willingly for 30 minutes by reading, writing, and/or planning. (Use the law of attraction as means for focus, turn off music) Then go to recess for 15 minutes. Get on tumblr, facebook, respond to emails, eat, talk on the phone...nothing related directly to school (unless you have to ie: make lunch).
After 15 minutes, repeat the process over again until the assignment is done.
Pro's: You gain a well planned balance. You appreciate the study time more.
Con's: You're still an internet junkie....a smarter internet junkie.
Yeah, this is on my 15...
